Straw Marquetry is a 17th century art-form that became popular during the Art Deco period. The technique is precise and meticulous and transforms rye straw into beautiful, unique decorative designs. The technique involves carefully cutting and arranging pieces of colored straw into intricate designs and patters. Straw is naturally rich in silicon which creates a unique shine to everything it is applied to. When the fiber changes direction, the overall sheen and lustre is enhanced. Straw inlay work can be applied to panels, furniture, lamps, picture frames, accessories and many other media, transforming them into elegant, chic and timeless "art objects".
