The mother-daughter team of Anne and Elle Shrader share an innate sense of understated elegance, which finds expression in their distinctively curated collections of home furnishings, lighting and décor. Their creative vision drives them to find and support artists and artisans who handcraft luxury furniture and stunning, one-of-a-kind functional sculpture.
For years, Anne and Elle had discussed creating a joint venture. That dream stayed alive even after Elle moved to attend Columbia College in Chicago in 2013, and then to Los Angeles to work at Garde. By the time Elle returned in 2021, Anne had also moved to Chicago. During the pandemic, they developed the idea for City Haus as a place to provide distinctive small-batch products — things that could resonate with a buyer’s personality and make a house a home.
Their first location in Lincoln Park served as an incubator for their current store in the River North neighborhood, home to The Merchandise Mart and just steps from iconic North Michigan Avenue. They now carry the work of more than 30 studios across the United States and abroad, showcased in a welcoming environment that reflects their own passion for imaginative style and lively taste.
